The Door Whisperer: An editors view: Simon Says

Introduction

Misconceptions & strong opinions, the two common feelings one gets when talking about door hardware. Many a times it is difficult to distinguish one from the other. Which of the above-mentioned twin emotions comes through first depends on how strongly it is put forward and the persona of the entity pushing the cause.

I strongly believe that hardware as such in many situations is much ado about nothing. After all we have been closing and locking doors for ages. However, it is fair to explore this and try to call a lever handle a lever handle (forgive the feeble attempt at a pun that couldn’t be avoided), as there are genuine cases where hardware enables the function of doors types backed by equally qualified manufacturers or brands. Not to mention the hardworking distributor trying to orchestrate the perfect balance between value and function.

With this series we aim to bring many notions and regional implications of current practices to light. The study and observations will be brand neutral, unless to refer to a ground breaking technology and will be mentioned with permissions.

This blog will also strive to be the voice in the market for all those embattled souls lost in questionable site situations and confusing product details. Together we could solve some of time’s forgotten mysteries in many markets: to lock or not to lock………

Do stay tuned for further attempts at wry humor and a spot of hardware history. Please feel free to drop in a question, problem at site or request for information which will be queried and answered for the good of all.
